So my partner and I are on a stop....we look up and see a vehicle trying to enter the North 110 using the exit from the north 110. We flash our flashlights at the driver in an attempt to get his attention to no avail. I go all superman and run at the car as does my partner. We get up there open the door and the smell of alcohol hits us. This guy is wasted...I mean absolutely savage drunk. we let the people we pulled over go. I start my Field sobriety tests...we run him and find out he's on DUI probation. He cannot refuse the PAS. He does HORRIBLE on his FST's.....I have him blow into the PAS - he blows .25..THREE TIMES THE LEGAL LIMIT. Crazy! this is the second time I pull someone over on the 110 going the wrong way. The week before I pulled over a girl driving south on the northbound 110. How she didn't hit anyone is beyond me. She blew .21. 5'4" 104 lbs.
We had nasty crashes on the 101 on the 24th. 2 vehicle crash and BOTH of the drivers were deuce! One blew .17 and the other .08. And, the second one was a transvestite! One thing about my job, definitely something new every day.
I'm totally scared of this coming weekend. I've been told that Halloween weekend is the craziest weekend of the year. I'll definitely have stories next monday. Until then...
I'm totally scared of this upcoming weekend. I've heard Halloween is the worst weekend of the year. Not even New Years

Oct 10
So.....I arrested two last weekend. One chick, super nice...she blew .08 (close!) On Saturday, my partner and I had just left jail and I didn't want to hook (arrest) cause it was my "friday." SOoooo, as we're heading back to the office, we see this car pulled over to the right curb just before the freeway entrance. Lights are on, engine is running and the driver is passed OUT! Bust a u-turn, pull up behind. I walk up to the driver side window, take a whiff...smell the alcohol. I called out to the driver. Nothing. Call out a little louder...still nothing. So i finally nudge the driver with my flashlight. Finally he moves....yep, red and watery eyes, unsteady gait...yeah. My partner immediately begins to fill out the impound sheet. Do my fsts, and he blows .144 in the field. Take him to jail, blows 13s. My partner had hooked earlier in the night so it was a good night.
Friday was pretty crazy too...we had a patrol vehicle crash, a fatal (pedestrian on the freeway) and we took a vehicle roll over with all 5 occupants transported. The ped according to the coroner was either on something or suicidal. He was walking on the freeway at 2am in the morning...in the fast lane. Yeah, car vs. ped....car won.
That's it for now!

Latest and greatest October 2010
SOooooooooo....it has been a while. Yes I know, I'm horrible. Sorry, but i've updates!
So, I'm on weekend nights. Yes, I'm now banished to weekend nights never to be seen or heard from again :( What do I mean by that? Well, when i'm working, everyone else will be on their weekend. When I sleep, all my friends/family will be awake. When I sleep, everyone else will be awake. So yep, I don't know when I'll see y'all again. I know I'm a lone wolf...but NOW more so than ever. Sorry y'all, see y'all when I see you.
Anyway, so first night of graves. SOOOOO much more fun. Sure days were fun, but having someone with you is better. Once we partner up at 2200, you have someone to joke around with all night :) So, we actually only stopped four calls all night. At 2200, my partner and I had reports to work on, so we did that for an hour and 15 minutes. We then took off in search of a deuce (deuce = DUI). We stopped on car who was weaving HORRIBLY. Cruz and I were certain that this was our deuce. The gentleman performed HORRIBLY on his FSTs (Field Sobriety Tests). We had him blow into the PAS (Preliminary Alcohol Screening Device) and he blew .00. WTH?!? Strange? We checked out his pupils, but they were normal. Then we received a call of a crash on the I-110 S/B just north of Exposition.
We roll out, and there is a car blocking the offramp, t/c (traffic collision) damage to the front. We get the vehicle off the road, start our accident investigation and then give him FSTs. He blew .14. But this dood was hilarious. He was joking with us the entire time! He told us he was going home from playing poker with a couple of buddies. When we arrested him, I counted all his money in front of him...a dollar had fallen off the trunk onto the ground. I hadn't noticed until he pointed it out. So he says "Ahhhh officer, trying to steal from me. Its cool, just let me go and we'll call it even." hahaha. My partner says to him "oh so you play cards? Well I'll clean you out right now." The gentleman says to him "I don't know, I just won $9000 tonight." LOL!
At the jail, the jailer was a chick who was quite the sight. The arrestee says "if I have to stay here with her, then y'all better hurry up and leave. I don't care that I'm staying so long as I stay with her." I'm telling y'all, guy was hilarious.
We leave the jail at around 0347. We are the only clear unit, and we get a call of a disabled vehicle. We roll out, see t/c damage, 2 flats. Now mind you, I get off at 0600. So I'm praying that this was a clean t/c, not a deuce t/c. I get up to the window, ask if everyone is ok, and smell the alcohol. Pretty little girl, 5'1, 105 lbs, red hair. We get the vehicle off the freeway, I start my accident investigation, then start my FSTs. She performed horribly on finger count and romberg. Pull out the PAS, and she blows .219 and .208. So i arrested her. Her bf got pissed when I had to search her. "You're groping her! Get your hands off of her pig!" We finally calmed him down and took his car, arrested her and left him there. He was not impressed. She on the other hand was completely cooperative. I'm a softie. The look on her face was sad. "Please don't tell me i'm over. Oh no" I felt bad. oh well.
More later!

Week 20
Sorry everyone, it has been too long. I just got caught up with everything and I went home twice (I think) since my last entry). So lets get this rolling.
Well our seniors graduated and that was bittersweet. It was great/motivating seeing them graduate, but it was terrible also because them graduating only meant that we had "hell week" the following week. And hell week started off cold.....27 degrees and snow! PT at 0445 was not fun, not at all. My body up to this point (week 17 was hell week) was already pretty beat up. By Wednesday, I was broken. My body was destroyed. Being that I am in C company, of course we got in trouble the most and were beat up on the most. Thursday, my left IT band around the outside of my left knee started acting up. I was in absolutely horrible pain. Friday was even worse; I had to run through the pain. I passed high speed driving on my 3rd attempt and because of this, I was advised by one of the officers to just "run through the pain" since I've made it this far and it would be a shame to go home after all this time, especially after passing high speed driving.
The very next week, we got oc sprayed (pepper spray)......without a doubt it was the most painful experience of my life! We get sprayed in the face, then we had to get down and pump out 20 pushups. Fastest pushpus I've ever done. Then, the person holding us walks over to get hosed off by a fire hose which was also horrible because you feel like you're getting water boarded. Then, as soon as I got out of line the burning continues and I got right back in line! The effects last about an hour (varies per person though) and its horrible. The spray will actually dry on your face and will re-activate during a "hot shower." So, that being said, if you ever get OC'd, DON'T TAKE A HOT SHOWER.
The next weekend, we got exposed to CS gas. There is a cadet with a gas mask in front of you; you are to put your hands on his/her shoulder and they guide you though the room where the gas grenades are exploded. Now, it takes about 30 seconds to walk though and I held my breath until I was about 5 ft from the end. I figured I should probably take a whiff of the gas just so that I know what it feels like....yeah no bueno. The gas closes your airways and makes you drool like a dog and your sinuses will clear out...completely. Snot will be pouring out of your face, it's really awesome (it's really not). However, the effects only lasted about 30 seconds on me so it wasn't too bad. I'd take CS gas 10 times before I would take oc again.
One week later, we got tased. You can volunteer to get shot with the taser or they'll hook up alligator clips to the taser, and hook the other end of them to you. Mine were hooked to my ankle and left shoulder so that I'd get full body lock up. You are tased for 5 seconds.....longest 5 seconds of my life!!! It was horrible, horrible pain. I swear I counted like 20 seconds! But not a peep came out of me, so I was proud of myself.
Lets see, what else....I think I've certified for everything I've needed to certify for physical methods of arrest. The only really big things left are scenarios and driving. I have my 4th component of driving this Sunday.
OH! We find out where we're getting assigned to probably by Wednesday. BUT, please don't ask where I'm going because even when I do find out, I'm not telling anyone. I'm not saying a word until I've passed everything and I know I'm graduating. So around week 24...I should know. :)
Anyway, that's all I have for now. Sorry for the long delay between blogs....I'll be more consistent. If y'all have any questions, please ask. Happy new year everyone!

It's gonna be a long couple of weeks...
Let me just say it straight out: the next couple of weeks will see several
cadets failing the academy. We have started scenarios and EVOC (driving) and those are the two classes that see off the most people. I've already failed my first (of four) skid pan attempts. I have my second attempt on monday. Some people may have failed out from physical methods of arrest yesterday. I hate to think about it but it's reality: people will fail. I hope I am not one of those.
I've take an "expect nothing" approach to the academy lately. Do I want to graduate and succeed? Of course! But I know that I am trying my absolute best and if I were to fail (lets hope not) then I know I tried. The academy life grows difficult, even more so than before. Sooooo much is going on lately and so much more is to come.
On a happier note, I finally got off the fat table :) I went from wearing size 33 jeans to size 31, though I still buy 32...just in case :) Hopefully this time next week, the next blog will be about what happened during the week. All blog posts from this point forward are tentative.....Feel free to drop any comments!
P.S. I LOVE the shot gun. I'm getting better at the rifle and better at the pistol.

inching closer...
Well this week was crazy. Monday, for PT we had a PT staff officer who can run. I mean, he was running 5:30 pace, and NO ONE could keep up with him save for one. When we finished our 2 mile, run, he made us do it again! Then we still had to do the floor workout, and at this point everyone was just dead. As y'all saw on my facebook earlier in the week, I was broken, absolutely BROKEN. I had nothing left in the tank on Monday. NOTHING.
Tuesday was no better. We got chewed out something fierce. Wednesday was better, but still challenging. The rest of the week dragged on. At this point in the academy, we have started to learn the meat and potatoes of the the CHP. Stuff is more hands on now and driving has really kicked up. 2 of my quadmates are in danger of failing of out of the academy (3rd of 4th attempts already). That adds stress to me that I really shouldn't allow. I should worry about driving when its my turn. I am however worried abotu my quadmates...good people.
Our next physical fitness test is on Monday and I think I'll be good to go. I just get a higher score than last time which I think I will. I think I MAY start phase two of driving this week but we'll see. We started shooting on the AR-15 (rifle) this week....I don't really like it. I like the shotgun much better.
Oh, vehicle code for all those people who throw their cigarette butts out the window: 23111 VC. Should I graduate from here...I'm going to cite that all day.

Week 11
Sorry about the no go last week. It was a tough week. This week I finally had restriction; it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I figure 11 weeks before I finally had restriction ain't bad.
In the last two weeks, I got my gun, I started range and actually fired my gun, then was introduced to the shot gun and rifle. Cool stuff but I definitely prefer the shotty. Love that thing. I just love the way it sounds.
Our company got in trouble again (big surprise) and we paid for it dearly today. I don't think I'll be able to feel my legs in the morning. Also, I almost drowned in the pool. Lets just say, I can swim laps ok......I just can't tread water. It was not a pretty site.
This week has been particularly hard on our seniors. We lost 10+!!! When we see all their stuff out in the hallway, its hard not to be demoralized. They had reached week 22...terrible.
The stress level around here just keeps on picking up. There is sooo much we still have to learn and I've no idea how I'm going to pull it off. I've definitely been pushed to my limits...and then some...
Lets see....no cool vehicle codes this time around...I started accident investigation class and that is super interesting as is DUI class. I have a whole new view on DUI drivers.
As always, feel free to ask me any questions. To all who have continued their contact with me, thank you. Your contact keeps me sane. Goodnight everyone.
